The train is more comfortable than the bus, but you would have to take a taxi from
the train station for another 3 hours to get to McLeod Ganj.


BY BUS:
There are many buses that take you to Dharamsala with a few stops in big cities like Chandigarh
on the way. Most of these buses leave in the evening for a 11 to 14 hour journey and the bus fare
usually depends on the comfort of the seats (approx. 400 Rs). Most buses for Dharamsala leave from
Inter State Bus Terminus, Delhi, and tickets are available from there.

Another option is to take the Bedi bus from Maju Ka Tilla Tibetan settlement in Delhi
(for bookings call Tibet Tours and Travels - Tel.23810952) or the Super Deluxe at
the Inter State Bus Terminus. The Bedi bus should take you directly to Mcleod Ganj,
while most other buses will take you to Lower Dharamsala, where you can then take
a taxi (for around 100 rupees) or share a jeep (for around 6 rupees) or take a local bus
for the 30 minute ride up to Mcleod Ganj.




BY TRAIN:
There are 6 different trains that travel from Delhi to Pathankot (which is 92 Km. from Dharamsala).
A taxi can be taken for the 2 hour ride from Pathankot to Mcleod Ganj for 800-1000 rupees
(16-20 US dollars) or a state bus for about 100 rupees. Most of the trains are overnight taking
11-13 hours. The train tickets can be booked from the Tourist Office, second floor of
New Delhi Railway station. You should have your passport with you, and be ready to pay
in US dollars or pounds sterling. Padlock your luggage under your bunk for security - it may
therefore be best to ask for a bottom bunk when booking if traveling alone. Make sure you are
awake when the train arrives in Pathankot, it will quickly resume its onward journey. Sometimes,
the train will only stop at a station called "Chakki Bank" which is 4 km away from the Pathankot
station. From there, you can take a rickshaw to the Pathankot bus station or taxi stand.
